How it works

One text. A real answer. Then we follow up.

GrandLine is a health navigation line, not a hotline. You text us what you need, we do the research, and we text you back with specifics. Here is what to expect from start to finish.

  1. 1

Sign up in about a minute

We ask for your first and last name, date of birth, state, the phone number you text from, and a sentence about what you need. That's all. No insurance card, no Medicare number, no account or password.

Why we ask: your date of birth and state tell us which programs and coverage rules apply to you before you send your first message.

  2. 2

    Send your first text

After you sign up, we open your phone's messaging app with our number and a short greeting already typed. Tap send. On an iPhone this is an iMessage; on other phones it is a regular text message.

If your phone doesn't open the app on its own, the number is printed on the screen and you can text it yourself, any time.

  3. 3

    Tell us what's going on

Write it the way you'd tell a friend. "I need a ride to dialysis Tuesdays and Thursdays at 5:30 in the morning." "My doctor ordered a lift chair and I don't know what Medicare pays." We may ask one or two questions, like whether you have Original Medicare or a Medicare Advantage plan.

We only ask for your Medicare number when a specific question needs it, such as checking coverage for a procedure.

  4. 4

    Get a specific answer

Usually within minutes. A doctor's name, address, and phone number. A yes-or-no on coverage with the dollar amount. The ride program for your county with the number to call. Messages are short and in plain words.

GrandLine gives you navigation and general information, never medical advice. For health decisions, talk with your doctor.

  5. 5

    We check back

The next day we ask how it went. If the office was booked, we already have two more names. Over time we remind you about things that matter to you, like open enrollment or an annual wellness visit, and never more than one message a day unless you're writing to us.

Reply STOP at any time and we stop texting you.

  6. 6

When a person should step in

Some things need a phone call and a human. When that happens we schedule a call with a GrandLine health navigator at a specific time, so the handoff feels like an upgrade and not a runaround.

If you qualify for a care advocacy program covered by Medicare at no cost to you, we'll tell you and can set up the first call.

Try it with your question.

Signing up takes about a minute. Your first answer usually takes a few more.
